Prime Minister Hun Sen has threatened to bring the Khmer-Thai border conflict to the upcoming Asean summit in May if Thailand
is still trying to thwart any attempts by Indonesia to help resolve the
issue. Mr. Hun Sen’s speech came after there are continuous media
reports that the Thai army chief Gen. Prayuth Chan-Ocha and Defence
Minister Prawit Wongsuwan repeatedly said that Thailand will not attend the Indonesia meeting as well as rejecting the deployment of Indonesian observers it has agreed to accept in the Asean foreign ministerial meeting on 22nd February 2011.

Speaking during a graduation ceremony at the National Institute of Education
on Monday morning which was attended by the Thai ambassador, Mr. Hun
Sen has asked to the Thai ambassador to convey a message to the Thai
government thatThailand must be held accountable in the face of Asean and the UN Security Council for all its actions or the lack of it.

Indonesia, currently the Asean chair, has proposed a meeting between the Cambodian and Thai defence ministers in Bogor from 7-8 April, but Thailand
has been very vocal of its opposition to such meeting as well as
rejecting the deployment of Indonesian observers it had agreed to
accept during the Asean meeting on 22nd February.

Mr. Hun Sen
said Cambodia has wholeheartedly agreed to the Bogor meeting and is
readily waiting for the deployment of the Indonesian observers, saying
Cambodia has prepared 15 vehicles, fully paid hotel rooms and two-way
communication radios for the Indonesian observers already.
