Border conflict rages on

Border skirmishes are continuing after Cambodian troops resumed their attacks on Thai soldiers on Phu Makhua mountain.
Army spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said renewed fighting began about
8pm on Tuesday when a Cambodian soldier threw a grenade into the Thai
base.
Cambodian troops then tried about 9pm to break through the lines of
Thai forces, who responded with grenades, prompting a retreat.
Cambodian troops re-entered the area near the Thai base at 10pm and
again threw hand grenades. Thai troops retaliated with grenades.
Cambodian troops renewed their attempts to infiltrate the area about
2am yesterday, firing rifles, mortars and rocket-propelled grenades at
the Thai base on Phu Makhua, part of the 4.6square kilometre disputed
area.
The Cambodians launched further attacks between 3.50am and 4am before returning to their base, Col Sansern said yesterday.
The fighting finally came to an end about 5.25am. No casualties were recorded among the Thai forces.
“The Thai military has reacted with appropriate defensive measures
and pushed Cambodian troops back to Cambodian soil,” Col Sansern said.
