Thai troops exploded 30 hand grenades to provoke a fight

Cambodian Front-line Troops
Cambodian
troops reported Thai troops stationed at Phnom Trop and Ta Thav, 5 km
east of Preah Vihear temple, have provoked a fight with Cambodian troops
everyday, but Cambodian troops had shown the utmost restraint by not
responding.

The sources said that Thai troops always exploded hand grenades
at their camp sites or thrown them at Cambodian positions in order to
provoke a response from the Cambodian troops so that they can start a
fight.

A Cambodian soldier told DAP News that at 3 a.m on Monday
14th February, Thai soldiers had exploded 30 hand grenades at their camp
site opposite Phnom Trop and Ta Thav, but the Cambodian troops did not
respond. On Saturday 12th February, Thai soldiers had exploded 13 hand
grenades in the areas. Other Cambodian soldiers near Preah Vihear temple
had also said that Thai troops had taunted Cambodian troops everyday to
provoke a fight. The sources said that at 9 a.m this morning, 2 armed
black-clad Thai soldiers attempted to enter the “prohibited Sombok Khmum
area”, but said they lost their way when confronted by Cambodian
troops. Only 5 unarmed soldiers from either side were allowed to be
stationed at the Sombok Khmum area.

As at 9 a.m this morning, the
military situation at Preah Vihear border is still very tense.
Cambodian military sources said that clashes could erupt any time again.
Analysts predicted that clashes could erupt after the meeting of the UN
Security Council in New York, which is meeting tonight 10 p.m Cambodia
time.
