Suthep: Not all Cambodians spies

Paranoia that Cambodian spies could be infiltrating Thailand would only
lead to a further souring of the relationship with Phnom Penh, Deputy
Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban (pictured) warned Monday morning.

Mr
Suthep, who supervises national security, said he supports the
military being on strict alert against Cambodian undercover agents
entering bordering provinces.

But Thai people should not view all Cambodian workers as suspected spies.

Such
an overgeneralisation would only lead to more distrust between the two
countries, already trapped in a dispute over overlapping border areas.

Mr Suthep said he had so far not received any reports of Cambodian spies being detected.

The
army earlier said it would train residents in border villages to look
out for unusual activity in their neighbourhood and report it, so the
intelligence services could easier track down any covert Cambodian
intelligence operations.
