MFA urges Thailand and Cambodia to exercise restraint

Thai soldiers stand guard near the border with Cambodia.
SINGAPORE: Singapore has expressed deep concern over the recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.
In a media statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesman called on both countries to exercise restraint.
The spokesman urged Thailand and Cambodia to resolve their differences through negotiations.
This is important both for their long term relationship, as well as in the broader interests of ASEAN.
The
statement said Singapore welcomes and supports the visit by Indonesian
Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa to Bangkok and Phnom Penh.
It
said Indonesia, as ASEAN Chair, is actively consulting the relevant
parties and helping to facilitate dialogue between the two countries so
that the dispute can be resolved in a peaceful manner.”
