Prime
Minister Hun Sen’s cousin has been exonerated of all charges of
corruption and fraud after National Assembly chairman Heng Samrin and
Justice Minister Ang Vong Vattana wrote separate letters to Prime
Minister Hun Sen requesting for a pardon.

Mrs. Dy Prim, a cousin
of Prime Minister Hun Sen on his mother’s side, and Mr. Seng Yean, an
official from the National Assembly’s Inspection and Relations
Committee, were accused of corruption and fraud after they took
$200,000 (FPM mistyped as $20) from residents
of Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district in exchange for their assistance and
intervention last year. The pair was charged by the court for
corruption and fraud since last year, but the case had been shelved
until it was intervened by Mr. Heng Samrin and Mr. Ang Vong Vattana
recently to exonerate them of all charges.

Mrs. Mu Sochau
(pictured), who has been calling for her parliamentary immunity to be
re-instated after she was stripped off her immunity in a defamation lawsuit
with Prime Minister Hun Sen, said Cambodia is a state of law and a
democratic society, so the intervention of the judicial process by Mr.
Heng Samrin and Mr. Ang Vong Vattana is a grave violation of the independence of the judiciary. “These kinds of people should not be retained in the justice system, and they must be removed from their positions. I very much regret that Mr. Ang Vong Vattana, who used to live in France, but have committed such acts which is a violation of the foundation of morality”, she said.

She
she said there is hypocrisy on the part of the Justice Ministry because
the Minister of Justice (Ang Vong Vattana) has not intervened on her
behalf to request for the reinstatement of her parliamentary immunity
despite she had paid all the court fines since November 2010.
