Prime Minister Hun Sen’s nephew has been sacked as Banteay Meanchey’s police commissioner by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Kheng.

Hun Hean, one of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s many nephews, was sacked yesterday by Mr. Sar Kheng (pictured) due to allegations of administrative irregularities, dereliction of duty and corruption.

Immediately after Hun Hean’s sacking, Mr. Chan Kosal, Banteay Meanchey’s Deputy Police Commissioner, was appointed as acting police commissioner.

Mr. Hun Hean’s sacking came one day after Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sar Kheng and Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of National Anti-Narcotic Authority Ke Kimyan made a two-day visit to the province.

As of today, Mr. Kheng Soum, Siem Reap’s Deputy Commissioner, has been appointed to take over Mr. Hun Sen’s position permanently. Mr. Kheng Soum is a relative of Gen. Kheng Sareth.

An Interior Ministry official, however, said the removal of Mr. Hun Hean’s from his position was an administrative restructure required to make the appointee more accountable to their job and works.
